This painting was done--at the risk of stating the obvious--in the week after the attack on the World Trade Center of September 11, 2001. For five days after that, my wife Rose and I could do little more than sit comatose in front of my TV set, watching current events unfold. At some point during that time period, I awoke with the vision for a Pop Art painting showing a plane striking the second tower and the reaction of a witness to that event screaming, "Oh my God!"
The painting is large: 3 feet by 5 feet. It is acrylic on wraparound canvas, meaning I paint on the narrow side panels, also signing the painting on the right side. The reproduction below is reasonably accurate, except the towers and the word balloon are white, not the light blue shown, resulting in a red, white and blue color scheme. The face of the woman shows red Ben Day dots in the style of Roy Lichtenstein. The sky is blue Ben Day dots. The painting currently hangs in the living room of my house in Long Beach.
