The basketball player below owes his origin outside the sports arena. I borrowed the basic image from a well-known painting by Roy Lichtenstein that shows a girl in a bathing suit holding a beach ball overhead. Lichtenstein, of course, did not originate that image; he borrowed it from a newspaper ad. Later, he used a similar image in his massive mural for the Equitable Building in New York, but casting it in the style of cubist Fernand Leger.
The basketball player, of course, is not Michael Jordan (in case his agent surfs into this web site); it is an anonymous player from the University of Chicago wearing number 23. And also below, that is not Pete Sampras or Tiger Woods, but merely athletes who play tennis or golf.
