In celebration of my 70^th birthday on June 17, 2001, I ran 7 marathons in 7 months with my goal to raise a total of $700,000 for 7 separate charities. The campaign was a success. As of February 1, 2002, friends donated an estimated $916,000 to the 7 charities plus an 8th charity I added in the wake of September 11.
